The She Pouch
Hello Everyone,
After what seemed like an eternity of pushing myself into blogging my sewing experiences, I have taken my baby steps. This is the first time I have attempted at making a tutorial let alone publish it, So be kind with your feedback.
Today I am going to show you how to make a "She Pouch".We all know how we open our handbag in a hurry in a public place and pop come out those sanitary pads. This pouch will help you save all the embarrassment.
Finished Size :
When laid open, the pouch measures 13.5" in length and 5.5 " in width.
Requirements :
Fabric of your choice ( 2 or more fabrics in coordinating or contrasting colours ), scissors or rotary cutter and cutting mat, marking chalk, Interfacing, sewing machine, thread in coordinating colour, Iron and iron board.
Get the Pattern pieces here
Cutting Instructions :
1. Cut two big recatngles of size 14.5" x 6.5" one from each fabric ( one would be the exterior fabric and the other the interior one ).
Also cut four small rectangles, two each from each fabrics of size 5" x 6.5".
2. Cut interfacing ( you can use any thickness , but I prefer using the thin one ) half inch less than the cut fabric pieces, i.e one big rectangle of 14" x 6" and small rectangles of 4.5 " x 6".
Note : Now, I like my pouches big where I am not restricted by the number of things I carry in it. If you want yours snug, feel free to trim half an inch in length and width while cutting your pieces.
Iron the interfacing onto the fabrics ( I ironed on the interfacing to the outer 14.5 " x 6.5 " rectangle and the two small rectangles of the same fabric ).
If you do not mind having a little bulkier version of the pouch, you can iron on interfacing on all the cut fabric pieces.
Now, keeping the right sides of the small rectangles of contrasting fabrics together, stitch on one long side for one set.
Turn right sides out ( wrong sides touching ), Iron at the seam and top stitch. This would be set 1.
For the other set of the small rectangles, stitch on both the long sides, with right sides together, so you will get a tube with two open ends.
Turn it right sides out and iron at both the seams and top stitch at one long side. This would be set 2.
At this point, I arrange my two small rectangles on the inner long rectangular fabric, with set 1 at the bottom of the big rectangle and set 2 at 1.5" distance from the top of set 1 as shown in the picture below.
Stitch the base of the set 2 to the long rectangle and also baste stitch all the edges of set 1 and set 2 to the long rectangular fabric, just so you do not miss out on edges or they do not fold over while putting everything together.
Now, put the outer big rectangle on the inner big rectangle with right sides together as shown in the pic below.
Pin and sew all around except for a 3" gap at the top to turn it right sides out.
Once you turn right sides out, iron and top the stitch the opening close and sew all around using the seam allowance as that you used to stitch the opening close.
Now to fix the snaps. You can also use magnetic snaps, but I prefer using these small snaps for a small project like this.
Shown in the picture above and below are the snaps and the dyes that help in fixing them.
Mark the center of the long edge and 1" down from the top at the center, fix the male snap.
Now, fill in the sanitary pads in the given compartments, as many as you can fill them with, to get the bulk.
Fold over and mark the point where you want to fix the female snap.
And your pouch is READY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Here is how it looks from the side.
Hope this tute helps. Please give a feedback on how you liked the tute and also attach the pictures of the "She Pouch" you made in the comments section.
Happy Sewing !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
